I'm reading through Sinclair's The Jungle, and it's having a profound impact on me. Anyone who feels discontent with their job needs to give it a read. Today's workforce is coddled beyond the imagination of workers in the early 20th century. Healthcare, severance, retirement savings...these are perks that I often take for granted, and I'm sure many others do too.
Not that I'm complaining! I'm so thankful for my job and all its perks. My favorite "coddling" is vacation time. Today I took a half day and got to spend the afternoon enjoying my family and playing video games during nap time. Which is a fantastic afternoon in and of itself. But the real beauty is that I got PAID to do it!
Even though we are accustomed to the standard benefits of full time employment, I am continually challenging myself to always be thankful for them.
