(I apologize if this post feels about 4 years too late...)
Political issues aside, I was quite impressed in the 2008 Presidential race when the Democratic Party was able to put forth two front-runners who represented demographics that have been struggling to achieve equality in our society since the country's inception. To any international readers, this was Barack Obama representing African-Americans, and Hillary Clinton representing women. Tangentially, I don't think the GOP will run out of old white men anytime soon.
Anyways, I found it most unfortunate that Hillary was the female selected to represent her demographic. And given the choice between the two (again, political issues aside), I think it was far better for the country that Obama was the nominee. Here's why:
Alternate Timeline
1989-1993: George Bush Sr.
1993-2001: Bill Clinton
2001-2009: George W. Bush
2009-2017: Hillary Clinton
Does this seem scary to anyone else? Over a quarter of a century where the highest ranking position in our country was shared between two families? That's not democracy, it's a dynasty.
Say what you will about the current Commander-In-Chief, but in my opinion, it is far better that he received the Democratic nomination than Clinton for the sole reason of interrupting the dynasty.
