I find myself challenged this holiday season. I always tend to look at the "Christmas Story" as a stand-alone narrative that ends with the birth of Jesus in the manger. But really, that's just the prologue to the story of what Jesus did on Earth.
Thus, I realize I am a little convicted for spending weeks planning, celebrating, and enjoying Christmas while the whole purpose of Christ's birth (that He might die and rise again) hardly gets more than a weekend's worth of emphasis.
So as I sang Christmas songs at the service last night, I called to mind not visions of a quiet manger scene, but the image of a perfect God-man hung on a cross for my own iniquities. This is the true meaning of Christmas--that God would send His only Son to die a horrible death that you and I might find salvation.
Thank you, Lord, for saving my soul.
Thank you, Lord for making me whole.
Thank you, Lord, for giving to me
Thy great salvation, so rich and free.
Merry Christmas!!!
