I don’t consider myself archaic or traditional in very many areas, but the family dinner is one instance I will concede. Dinner is the one event of the day where the whole family can come together and fellowship. But I find there are far too many distractions and obstacles to enjoying dinner the way a family ought to. With television, phones, texting, and video games, it’s no wonder that a family can go an entire meal without talking to each other. They might as well be eating in separate rooms!
I firmly believe in a “no electronics” policy at the dinner table. TV is off, cell phones are silenced, and we actually have to look each other in the eyes and talk about our day. It’s crazy, I know! But I consider that time far too precious to waste on gadgets, as my family grows up before my eyes.
