Many a mom will disagree with me as she scolds her child using all three names, each clearly enunciated. But really, how useful are middle names? Unless you have a very common first and last name, or if you actually go by your middle name, I would argue that middle names are fairly pointless.
I don’t care what your middle name is unless we’re going to have a very close friendship. And even then, it’s just for my own personal knowledge. I never use my wife’s middle name. I never even use my own middle name. And yet all new parents spend so much time figuring out what sounds best with the first names they like.
Of course, I’m guilty of hypocrisy on this issue, as I actually cared about my daughter’s middle name. If I were to hold myself to my own opinion, I would have just let my wife pick the middle name. So I fully recognize the double standard here.
