Growing up, various dental assistants must have told me at least five different “right” ways of brushing my teeth.
“Oh, don’t brush side to side, brush up and down.”
“Oh, don’t brush up and down, brush in small, tiny circles.”
“Oh, don’t brush in small tiny circles, brush up/down and side-to-side at the same time.”
“Make sure you brush your gums.”
"Oh, don’t brush your gums, they will recede from your teeth.”
It got to the point where I didn’t even bother listening anymore because the inconsistency was too frustrating. I’m not sure if dentists ever reached a consensus, but I must be doing something right because I haven’t had a cavity in years.
Or maybe it’s just that I now have a dentist I trust (see previous post)!
