I consider myself a pretty open-minded person when it comes to trying new things. To that end, I am almost always willing to follow recommendations on music, food, books, tv shows, and games. I will even consider genres that I am otherwise averse to. I’m not the biggest fan of chick flicks, but if a friend claims they’ve found one of the best, I would give it a watch.
But be warned, you only get one shot. If someone makes a recommendation that I follow but end up regretting, he
has virtually guaranteed I will never listen to his preferences again, except to make note of what I should avoid. So make sure your first recommendation is a good one. And I do try to be fair, rating each product on its own merit within its given class. So the “best chick flick” might not make my own top list, but I could at least see how someone who favors the genre would enjoy it.
I also try not to make recommendations lightly, only lauding those truly spectacular experiences. Nor do I want to be the kind of person that fauns over everything. You know the kind; every movie they see is the best movie ever.
