One of my favorite times as a child was playing video games with my dad. I remember how cool it was that he would take the time to learn how to play the game and he seemed to have fun doing it. When I found out I was going to be a father, one of the things I looked forward to most was playing video games with my own kids.
But that would be missing the point, I think.
Of course I would enjoy doing something I love with my kids. But the reason those childhood memories are so fond to me was because my dad was doing something that I, the kid, wanted to do. It would be silly to expect my children to get the same enjoyment from an activity that I enjoyed as a kid.
So with that in mind, I decide to share in my children's interests, whatever they may be. From making up silly dance moves, to creating something crafty, or even (ugh) sports. And I know that taking the time to enjoy what they enjoy will make all the difference.
