In fact, it's easier for me to justify helping some poor family in South America that can live off of $5 for a week or longer, whereas that same $5 in America would buy one combo meal. We also have social programs in place in our country that will prevent people from dying in the streets, while many third world countries do not.
Ultimately, we have ourselves to blame for outsourcing. Because our standard of living is so high and consumers demand the cheapest products possible, companies have no choice but to send work overseas if they want to be able to compete in the marketplace.
Call me "Un-American" if you will, but I truly believe that all people were created equally. And if buying oranges from South Africa instead of my local farmer's market helps keep up African workers' standard of living, then I'm not going to apologize for it.
